Pete Wishart MPToday (Thursday) SNP MP Pete Wishart called on the Government to bring a sense of perspective to the matter of Scots saying they were not supporting England after shocking comments were posted to the website of Scottish tennis player Andy Murray about the Dunblane Primary School massacre - the school he attended at the time.

Mr Wishart raised the matter at Business Questions today where he asked the Leader of the House if the Government would make a statement calling for some perspective on the matter of World Cup team support.

Commenting Mr Wishart said:

"To use the Dunblane massacre as a basis to attack Andy Murray for saying he wasn't supporting England isn't football banter – it is just sick.

"Everyone has to get a sense of perspective on what is simply a matter of football. Banter and rivalry are part of the football culture but to abuse someone over an incident like Dunblane goes beyond any sense of rivalry.

"No-one should be cajoled or browbeaten into supporting a team they feel no affinity to.

"Along with shameful incidents in Scotland by thugs it's about time a sense of perspective was brought to this matter.
